Riverside Family Support is proud to work in tandem with local agencies to provide services to families and individuals in collaborative partnership with local CSB case managers, DSS Family Service Specialists, or other agency partners referring families to our services.
Our goal is to support families by keeping children safe, fostering stability, empowering connections, and building resiliency. We strive to lighten your mental load by providing collaborative services from educated and trained professionals.

Supportive Services for Families
Family Support Services
Education and support for parents and families focused on stability, preventing out-of-home placement, working toward reunification, and supporting permanency. Services are individualized to the family's needs and may include parent education, coaching, parent-child visitation coaching, coparenting support, case management, and achieving household stability. Brief Strategic Family Therapy (BSFT)
A short-term, evidence-based family therapy for youth ages 6-18 with behavioral or emotional issues. Typically 8-12 hours per month over 3-4 months. Title IV-E eligible. BSFT helps families address individual & family risk factors by using targeted interventions and skill-building techniques. It operates on the idea that family interactions greatly impact children’s behavior, and improving unhealthy
family dynamics can decrease problematic behaviors.

Check & Connect
Academic Support
Trauma-informed, relationship-based mentoring for youth ages 21 and under. Uses the Casey Life Skills Assessment to target growth areas, including emotional regulation, social skills, conflict resolution, self-advocacy, and independent living. Grounded in attachment theory and the MENTOR National Mentoring Partnership framework.
C&C is an evidence-based truancy intervention for students with chronic absenteeism, school refusal, or active/at-risk CHINS involvement. The service uses attendance and behavioral data to address root causes of disengagement and strengthen family-school collaboration.Check & Connect is a comprehensive student engagement intervention developed at the University of Minnesota. Demonstrated outcomes of Check & Connect include: increased attendance, persistence in school, accrual of credits and school completion rates; and decreased truancy, tardies, behavioral referrals and dropout rates. Check & Connect is data-driven and grounded in research on resiliency and home-school collaboration.
Individualized support for students with executive functioning challenges, learning differences, or unmet educational needs. Includes coaching in time management, task initiation, and follow-through, plus educational advocacy for 504 Plans, IEPs, and formal assessments. Providers are trained in special education law. RFS's Academic Support service has a 96% success rate since its implementation in 2021 in securing formal accommodations.
Clinical Services
Individual Therapy
Therapy and trauma-informed treatment for individuals and families. Clinicians are trained in attachment-based therapies, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), child-centered play therapy, and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples and coparents. Reunification Therapy
Clinical service for parents and children working to rebuild their relationship after a period of estrangement or disrupted contact. Uses attachment-based and trauma-informed approaches to address relational rupture, restore trust, and support healthy reconnection at a pace appropriate for the child.
Therapeutic Parent Coaching
Individual clinical work with a parent that combines therapy and parenting support. Parents process their own history, trauma, and patterns with a clinician while building parenting skills and breaking negative cycles.
Phase-Based Problematic Sexualized Behavior Treatment
Short-term treatment for children 12 and under displaying developmentally inappropriate sexual behaviors. 12-16 sessions covering body safety, healthy sexuality, supervision, boundaries, and emotional regulation with caregivers and children. Medicaid-eligible
Equine Therapy
Clinical treatment that integrates DBT, CBT, and somatic therapy with structured, non-riding interactions with horses. Sessions support emotional regulation, trauma processing, nervous system awareness, and relational patterns. Located in Keezletown, VA.
Groups
Parent Education Group
10 weeks
A group for parents covering child development, age-appropriate expectations, safe sleep practices, positive discipline, and home stability. Available virtually or in person.
New Ways for Families
6 weeks
Structured skills-based program for high-conflict coparenting situations. Teaches parents four big skills for managing conflict and protecting children
Seeking Safety
12 weeks
Evidence-based group treatment for domestic violence, trauma, and substance use that teaches safe coping skills. Delivered by a clinician. Medicaid-eligible.
Forensic Services
Comprehensive assessments to inform diagnosis, treatment planning, and recommendations. Including Parental Capacity Evaluations, Adult and Child Comprehensive evaluations, and more
